About Cassatt's The history of Cassatt's In 2002, my family and I had the wonderful experience of spending eight months in New Zealand as a result of my wife having a fellowship to work with the Ministry of Education there. In addition to enjoying the natural beauty of the country and the warm hospitality of the people, we fell in love with the caf culture in New Zealand, surely now one of the caf capitals of the world. We have tried to bring much of this feel to Cassatt's.
Where does the cafe's name come from? Cassatt's is named after Mary Cassatt, the American impressionist who painted with Monet, Manet, Degas, and the other French impressionists. Cassatt's is a gallery for local artists as well as a caf and many of our artists evoke the style of Mary Cassatt and the impressionists in their work. We also cater to families at Cassatt's and mothers and children were the principal subjects of Mary Cassatt. Also, Mary Cassatt's birthplace was Philadelphia which is my home town as well, altogether it seemed a good fit. To learn more information about Mary Cassatt, try here (link opens in a new window).
